Sat 5th July 2008 Leaving Abu Dhabi

7:00am and the alarm goes off to much groaning. We are leaving at 7:45am for a 9:50am flight to Bangkok. Our suitcases were checked in yesterday at City Terminal, so we can check in at the airport at 8:30am.
We arrive, go through Xray and immigration and get our exit visas stamped.
Good bye Abu Dhabi.
I find a postbox so I can send the exit papers to my college and we get cash exchanged.
It is now 9am and boarding is being called, but that has to wait as I have to buy mints and do another loo trip.
We queue for boarding and fly out only 10 mins late. The flight is without any excitement until the turbulence causes the crew to be belted in.
Bangkok (BKK) airport is very fast moving and we pass through pass port and visa control quickly. We chose airport limo as our transport and arrive at our hotel.

I spent a lot of time sorting out our rooms before we arrive to find that they are all wrong. They put the girls opposite us in stead of adjoining. Eventually we are organised into a 7th floor room with 4 single beds, which is fine.

So we step out for our first taste of Thailand and a quick wonder round. The city is chaotic, it has to be seen to be believed. The two roads we are on are called the "Backpackers Highway". Short, vibrant, exciting streets bustling with people, food vendors, pavement bars.
We had dinner in the hotel rather than be adventurous, and in spite of the street music we sleep well.
