Sun 6th July 2009 Bangkok - canal trip and tailoring.

We can't wake up in the morning. The girls and I are exhausted. Ian being his usual bouncy self goes out and comes back in 4 times before we make it up and at 'em. 10:30am the three girlies are dragged from bed and off we go...
I wanted to see the river, but we twisted and turned so many times through the city that we had no idea where we ended up. Locals are friendly and a passing man told us where to go and how to get transport there, and wanred us what the cost would be so we would not be diddled.
We found a tuktuk for 20 Baht to a Thai Canal tour.
They are called long nose boats and have an engine on a long stick out of the back. They are great fun, if low in the water. It banged over the waves which freaked out Alexandra, but though scary it was exhilarating.
It was a completely impulsive trip and a  lot of fun.
What we did see was astonishing poverty in houses along side the canal alternating with glorious, ornate, colourful temples. A lady in a small boat stopped us and we got beer and sampan hats from her.
We popped back to the hotel for 10 minutes and went out for lunch. We had Pad Thai, Stir Fry and rice in a pavement cafe - yummy and cheap. Drinks cost as much as food.

Our next new experience in the tailor. He's been recommended so we got Ian two suits and 2 shirts made to measure for about 350GBP. This was the measuring and choosing material appointment.

TV watching and afternoon naps are now needed.
8pm we are out and about again - we get street vendor food - spring rolls and Pad Thai which we eat sitting on the kerb outside a shop watching a gecko catch ants. He watches them go by and then catches them in batches.

A quick walk through an alley we find and more colour and noise assault us. This is Khoa San the true back-packing street. Wanna buy deep fried locusts? Tasty, crunchy maggots? Me neither, so it is back to our room to play cards, upload photos and sleep.
